The Creativity Festival 2018

a scrapbook...

The summer month of July used to be about hazy lazy days. Now it's consumed with preparations for The Creativity Festival which takes place on the first weekend in August. It is a wonderfully magic weekend, once it all comes together on the Friday. However, the weeks before are sometimes fraught with unexpected problems. This year our biggest problem was toilets... or rather, lack thereof. In my head, I had booked and payed for toilets, but I must have dreamt it. When I phoned the rental company, they had no booking confirmed for us. Our very talented builder spent two days in the scorching sun creating toilets for us. They turned out perfectly, and catastrophe was averted.

The menu was planned, the bell tents set up and toilets in situ. We were ready to receive double the quantity of guests as we had the previous year for our second annual Creativity Festival.

This year we deliberately spread the various events and workshops around the farm to encourage guests to enjoy the whole farm and to explore our flower garden, fruit garden, farm shop and our vegetable garden. On arrival, guests were greeted by a member of the team and shown to their tent. Beds were laid with fresh crisp linen and each guest was welcomed with a gift bag filled with exciting gifts.

The event began with an afternoon tea prepared by the staff in our farm shop. Sandwiches and cakes, served in our big tipi, set the scene for the weekend of idyll.

Friday night transported us all into a world of creativity and reflection. We had a mindfulness talk and workshop by Gabrielle Treanor, we made smudge sticks to clear away negative energy and talismans for good luck... all perfectly complemented by a delicious sit down dinner.

Saturday morning brought beautiful weather and everyone was excited about the activities of the next two days. We were blessed with workshops from so many talented people. Ranging in topics from macrame to ceramics to knitting and jewellery making and much more. The farm was buzzing with activity, chatter and laughter... a weekend to remember and cherish. Making new friends and spending time with  like minded creative people in a bucolic setting is heavenly.
